Stage 2 remap for cars with upgraded parts
Fitted a bigger intercooler, a new intake or a freer-flowing exhaust? A Stage 2 remap rewrites the engine software around those parts so you get the gains you paid for. It's £275 + VAT, mapped at your home or workplace.
We write the map and your garage fits the parts
SGR are a mobile mapping service, so we don't supply or fit hardware. Have your upgrades fitted by a garage or specialist you trust, then book us in to map the car where it sits.
Send us the full parts list when you book. The map depends on exactly what's changed, and knowing it up front means there are no surprises on the day.
Upgrades a Stage 2 map is built around
Stage 2 covers a car that breathes better than standard. These are the parts we see most often.
- A larger front-mount intercooler to keep intake air cooler
- A performance intake or induction kit
- A high-flow downpipe and sports exhaust on turbo petrols
- An uprated fuel pump on some petrol engines
- A stronger clutch to hold the extra torque
Why new parts need a matching map
Your standard map has no idea a new intercooler or exhaust has gone on. It keeps running the factory boost and fuel settings, so most of what the parts could give you sits unused.
A Stage 2 map takes advantage of the cooler, denser air and lower exhaust back pressure. That allows more boost and fuel than a standard engine could safely take, which is where the extra over Stage 1 comes from.
Stage 2 remap cost
Stage 2 costs the same as Stage 1, because the work on the day is mapping in both cases.
| Service | Price |
|---|---|
| Stage 2 remap | £275 + VAT |
| Gearbox remap only | £195 + VAT |
| Engine and gearbox package | £440 + VAT |

Cars that respond well to Stage 2
Small turbo petrols such as the Abarth 595 are popular Stage 2 projects, as are hot hatches like the Fiesta ST, Focus ST and Golf GTI. Turbo diesels with an uprated intercooler and exhaust also make good candidates.
If your car isn't a common choice, send us the registration and parts list anyway. You'll find the makes we map most often on our vehicles page.
What happens on the day
Parts check
We go through the list of upgrades with you and read any fault codes before starting.
Mapping
Your original file is saved, then the Stage 2 map is written to suit the hardware on your car.
Handover
We clear the codes and start the engine, then talk you through how the car should feel.
What Stage 2 customers say
Does my car need a Stage 1 map before Stage 2?
No. If the parts are already on the car, we go straight to Stage 2. If you're still saving for them, a Stage 1 remap now and a Stage 2 map later is a common route.
Do you fit Stage 2 parts?
We don't. Our technicians are mobile mappers, so the hardware needs to be fitted by your own garage before we visit.
Can you remap my car to Stage 2 on standard parts?
We'd advise against it. Without the supporting hardware, Stage 2 boost levels push intake temperatures and exhaust pressure too far, and the engine pays for it over time.
Will my clutch and gearbox handle Stage 2?
Torque at Stage 2 is higher than at Stage 1, and a standard clutch on some cars starts to slip. On DSG and automatic cars, a gearbox remap raises the torque limits in the transmission software to match.
Does a Stage 2 remap affect my insurance?
It does need declaring, along with each of the parts you've fitted. Insurers treat performance upgrades individually, so list them all. See our insurance and warranty guide.
Get the most from your upgraded car
Tell us what's been fitted and we'll confirm the map, the price and a time to visit. Your car stays put while we turn those parts into real performance.
