Mobile engine carbon cleaning for £125 + VAT

Carbon builds up inside every engine over the years, sapping power and making the idle rough. Our carbon cleaning service clears those deposits at your home or workplace for £125 + VAT.

Signs of carbon build-up

Carbon creeps in slowly, so most owners only notice when the car feels noticeably worse than it used to.

  • Less power than before, especially low in the rev range
  • A rough or shaky idle
  • Hesitation when you put your foot down
  • Fuel consumption creeping up
  • Misfires or an engine management light on direct-injection petrol engines
  • Extra exhaust smoke, especially when accelerating
If a warning light is on, a mobile diagnostic check confirms the cause before you book a clean.

Where the carbon comes from

Diesels feed soot back into the intake through the EGR valve, where it mixes with oil vapour from the crankcase breather and sets like tar. Direct-injection petrol engines suffer too, because fuel no longer washes over the inlet valves.

Short trips and low revs make it worse, as the engine rarely gets hot enough to burn deposits off. Over tens of thousands of miles the airways narrow, and the engine can't breathe as freely.

Carbon cleaning methods compared

There are three main ways to clean carbon from an engine, and they suit different situations.

Hydrogen carbon cleaning

A machine feeds hydrogen and oxygen into the intake with the engine running, which helps burn deposits off the combustion chambers and exhaust side.

Chemical intake cleaning

A cleaning solution is introduced through the intake to soften and lift deposits from the valves and ports.

Walnut blasting

Crushed walnut shell is blasted at the inlet valves with the intake removed. It's thorough on direct-injection petrols but needs workshop time.

Our mobile carbon clean is an intake cleaning process carried out on site, without taking the engine apart.

What happens during a mobile carbon clean

Pick a slot

Book online or call us with the registration, and we'll confirm a time at your home or workplace.

Pre-check

The technician reads the fault codes first, so any other problem is spotted before cleaning starts.

The clean

The cleaning process runs with the vehicle where it's parked. Most cleans fit within a 60 to 90 minute visit.

Test and recheck

The engine is run up, and fault codes are checked again before we leave.

Carbon cleaning with a remap or DPF clean

A clean intake lets a remapped engine make the most of the extra fuel and boost, so it's a sensible job to book before a Stage 1 remap. It also pairs well with DPF cleaning on a diesel with a history of EGR and soot problems.

Frequently asked questions about carbon cleaning

SGR Automotive van on a job, a car's bonnet open behind it
How much does carbon cleaning cost?

Engine carbon cleaning is £125 + VAT, and we come to your home or workplace to do it.

How often should an engine be carbon cleaned?

There's no fixed interval. Diesels doing lots of short trips and direct-injection petrols build up carbon fastest, so book a clean when the signs on this page start to come back.

Do you offer walnut blasting?

Walnut blasting needs the intake taken off in a workshop, which doesn't suit a mobile visit. Our £125 + VAT clean is designed to be carried out where the vehicle is parked.

Will carbon cleaning fix a blocked DPF?

Carbon cleaning works on the intake and combustion side of the engine. If the DPF light is on, you need a DPF clean, though carbon cleaning can help a diesel that keeps loading its filter with soot.

Does diesel engine carbon cleaning differ from petrol?

The build-up is different. Diesels collect sticky soot from the EGR in the intake, while direct-injection petrols tend to coat the back of the inlet valves, so the clean targets the area each engine needs.

Is carbon cleaning worth it on a high-mileage car?

If the car shows the signs above, yes, as it's one of the cheaper ways to win back lost smoothness. On a car that already runs well, there may be little to gain.

Book a carbon clean for £125 + VAT

Tell us the car or van and what it's doing, and we'll come out to clear the carbon where it's parked. Smoother idling and lost response back for less than the price of a service.
