EGR delete at your home, yard or workplace
A sticking or clogged EGR valve causes rough running, smoke and limp mode, and replacing it gets expensive. Our EGR delete switches the system off in the ECU for £220 + VAT, wherever the vehicle is parked.

Symptoms of a failing EGR valve
Rough idle and hesitation
Exhaust gas getting back into the engine at the wrong moment makes the idle lumpy and the car hesitant when you pull away.
Black smoke
A valve stuck open upsets the air and fuel mix, and the result is sooty smoke under acceleration.
EGR fault codes
P0401 (EGR flow insufficient) and P0403 (EGR control circuit) are the two we're asked about most.
Limp mode
When the ECU can't control EGR flow, it often cuts power to protect the engine until the fault is dealt with.
Coolant loss and white smoke
A leaking EGR cooler can let coolant into the intake. Read about EGR cooler failure.

Get in TouchWhat the EGR does and why it clogs
The exhaust gas recirculation valve feeds a measured amount of exhaust back into the intake to lower combustion temperatures and cut NOx. That gas carries soot, which mixes with oil vapour from the breather and bakes onto the valve and intake over time.
Eventually the valve sticks open or shut and the ECU logs a flow fault. BMW's N47 diesel is a common example, along with plenty of high-mileage van engines.
EGR delete or a new valve?
| EGR delete | New EGR valve | |
|---|---|---|
| Price | £220 + VAT | Depends on the vehicle, plus fitting |
| Where | At your home or workplace | At a garage |
| Repeat clogging | EGR faults no longer logged by the ECU | A new valve can clog again over time |
If you'd rather keep the EGR working, a garage can fit a replacement valve. Our guide to EGR valve replacement cost shows what that typically involves.
How your EGR delete is carried out
Book a time
Order online or call 0161 694 7331 with the registration and how the vehicle will be used.
We arrive on site
The technician reads the ECU and any stored EGR codes before making a change.
The EGR is switched off
Valve control and flow monitoring are turned off in the software, and the fault memory is cleared.
Checked before we leave
The engine is started, codes are read again and the warning light should stay off.
EGR deletes for vans and fleets
Vans that idle on site, crawl through town and stop and start all day are hard on an EGR valve, and repeat failures soon add up. We can carry out the delete at your yard or depot between jobs.
Businesses with regular work can register for a trade account.
What our customers say
How much does an EGR delete cost?
Our EGR delete is £220 + VAT, and that includes us coming out to the vehicle anywhere in our North West area.
What does "EGR A flow insufficient detected" mean?
It's the description that comes with P0401. The ECU has asked the valve to open but hasn't seen the change in airflow it expects, usually because carbon has blocked the valve or its passages.
Do you fit an EGR blanking plate?
A blanking plate physically seals the EGR passage so no exhaust gas gets through, while the software delete stops the ECU controlling and monitoring the valve. We'll confirm what your vehicle needs when you book.
Can you do an N47 EGR delete?
Yes. The N47 diesel fitted to many BMW and MINI models is a common candidate for an EGR delete.
Can I have the EGR and DPF deleted together?
Yes. Book an EGR delete and a DPF delete together and we'll carry out both on one visit.
Do you delete the EGR on Ford Transits?
Yes. Older Transits are done on site for £220 + VAT, while 2018-on models with the locked Ford SID212 ECU have the ECU unlocked off site, taking 7 days and costing £1,200 + VAT. Our Ford SID212 EGR delete page covers those vans.
Is an EGR delete legal?
An EGR system is part of a vehicle's emissions equipment, so we carry out EGR deletes for off-road and export use only. Our guide to whether an EGR delete is legal explains the rules.
Book your EGR delete
Let us know the make, model and how the vehicle will be used, and we'll arrange a visit. The delete costs £220 + VAT and puts an end to EGR fault codes for good.
