What remapping changes on the A3

The factory map is written to suit every market and every grade of fuel. A remap adjusts settings such as boost, fuelling and timing for UK conditions, which usually means stronger pull through the middle of the rev range and fewer downchanges on the motorway.

On an S3 or RS3, sharper response is usually the aim, while a diesel A3 used for commuting may suit an economy map better. We'll talk through which suits your car when you call.

Is it worth it on an A3?

If your A3 has a turbo petrol or turbo diesel engine, a remap is good value, because turbo engines respond best to a new map. Small non-turbo petrols gain very little for the money, and we'll tell you so before you book.

A Stage 2 map only pays off once the parts are on the car. If you haven't fitted any upgrades yet, Stage 1 is where to start.

Insurance and warranty

A remap changes the engine's output, so tell your insurer before or straight after the work. If your A3 is still under manufacturer warranty, a remap can affect it, so check the terms first. Our guide to remaps, insurance and warranty goes through both.

Is Stage 2 an option on the A3?

Yes, as long as the supporting parts are already fitted by a garage you trust. We write the Stage 2 map around your exact parts list, so send it over when you book. See our Stage 2 remap page for more.

Is the engine and gearbox package worth it?

On an automatic or DSG A3, S3 or RS3, it saves £30 against booking the two maps separately. The gearbox map is set to match the new engine map, so shifts suit the extra torque.

Do I need to tell my insurer about a remapped A3?

Yes. A remap counts as a modification, and leaving it off the policy could give the insurer grounds to refuse a claim.

Will a remap affect my A3's warranty?

It can, because a manufacturer can turn down engine or gearbox claims on a remapped car. If your A3 is still covered, read the warranty terms or ask the dealer before booking.
