Audi A5 remapping
If your A5 feels heavier than it should when you pull onto the motorway, or your S5 doesn't respond as quickly as you'd like, a remap is often the answer. We map A5, S5 and RS5 models at home or work, starting with a fault code read.
Reasons to remap an A5
- A 2.0 TDI or 3.0 TDI Sportback that covers big motorway miles could use an economy map
- The 2.0 TFSI coupé feels lazy below the middle of the rev range
- You want an S5 to answer the throttle more sharply, or a Stage 2 map after fitting parts
- An RS5 owner is after a crisper feel or overrun crackles
- Joining fast roads from short slip roads feels like hard work
What a remap changes on an A5
A remap rewrites the engine's settings for boost, fuelling and timing, which the factory leaves conservative to cover every market. On an A5 that tends to mean firmer acceleration in the gears you use most, with the TDI models gaining the most usable pull.
On the S5 and RS5, the bigger change is how quickly the car responds when you press the pedal.
Work worth pairing with an A5 remap
| Extra | When it helps | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Gearbox map | If your A5 has an automatic or DSG gearbox, so shifts match the new torque | £195 + VAT, or £440 + VAT with the engine map |
| Carbon clean | On a high-mileage TDI where intake carbon could hold the new map back | £125 + VAT |
| Diagnostics | When a warning light or stored fault needs sorting before mapping | £100 + VAT |
What we do about it
Before any software changes, we scan your A5 for stored faults and make a copy of the original file. Then the new map is loaded, whether that's Stage 1, Stage 2 or economy, at £275 + VAT. S5 and RS5 pops and bangs are quoted per car.
We finish by reading the codes again and running through what the map does. Our Stage 2 remap page covers what's needed if you're planning parts.
Will I notice the change on ordinary journeys in my A5?
Yes, mostly in how the A5 pulls from low and middle revs. Overtakes take less planning, and the car settles into top gear sooner.
Can a remap improve my A5's mpg?
An economy map on a TDI A5 is written with fuel use in mind. The saving varies with your mileage and the way you use the car.
Should faults be fixed before the A5 is remapped?
Yes. We won't map over a live fault, because it could mask the cause, so any stored codes are discussed with you first.
Can a remap cause problems on an A5?
Not on a sound car with a properly written map. The usual risk is an existing fault or a tired clutch, and our checks are there to spot that.
