Peugeot Boxer AdBlue problems and delete

When an AdBlue countdown on a Boxer hits zero, the van won't restart once the engine has been switched off. We come to the van, read the codes and find out which part has failed. We can then delete the AdBlue system for £330 + VAT.

AdBlue warning signs on a Boxer

Peugeot vans don't always say "AdBlue" when the system has a fault, so watch for any of these on the dash.

  • An AdBlue warning light that won't go out
  • A "no start in" mileage countdown, or a message saying the engine won't restart
  • "Anti-pollution fault" or "emission system fault" on the display, which Peugeot often shows in place of an AdBlue light
  • The engine management light coming on alongside an AdBlue message

What causes AdBlue faults on a Boxer

Most AdBlue faults trace back to a handful of parts. The pump can lose pressure, the heater or tank can fail, a NOx sensor can stop reporting properly, or dried fluid can crystallise and block the injector.

If your Boxer is a BlueHDi, tank and heater faults are worth checking early, as Peugeot and Citroen BlueHDi models are known for them. Our guides to AdBlue heater and tank faults and AdBlue pump failure go into each one.

Fault codes you might see on a Boxer

CodeWhat it points to
P20E8AdBlue pressure too low, often a pump or supply problem
P203FAdBlue level too low, from a near-empty tank or a faulty level sensor
P2200A NOx sensor circuit fault, covered in our NOx sensor guide

A code on its own rarely tells the whole story, so we read the live data behind it as well.

What we do about it

We start with a diagnostic check for £100 + VAT at your yard, depot or home, so you know which part has failed. We don't repair AdBlue systems, so a repair means the pump, heater, tank or sensor being replaced by a dealer or SCR specialist.

Our AdBlue delete is £330 + VAT. It switches the system off in the ECU, clears the stored codes and stops the countdown.

What does the AdBlue warning mean on a Boxer?

Sometimes it's just a low tank or poor-quality fluid, and sometimes a part of the system has failed. Top up with fresh AdBlue first, and if the warning stays or a countdown appears, the Boxer has a fault that needs reading.

What happens when the countdown reaches zero?

The Boxer keeps running until you turn it off, then won't restart. If you're close to zero, park where the van can safely stay and tell us when you book. Our AdBlue countdown guide has more.

Why is the AdBlue light still on after filling?

Filling up only clears the warning when the tank was simply low. If the light stays on afterwards, the ECU has logged a fault with the pump, heater, a sensor or the fluid itself, and the codes will show which.

Is it the pump, the heater or a sensor?

The dash can't tell you, because the same warning covers all three. A diagnostic check reads the stored codes and live data on your Boxer, so you know what has failed before paying for parts or a delete.

Can a Boxer with the AdBlue deleted stay on the road?

No. The Boxer delete is sold for off-road and export vans only, and our guide on whether an AdBlue delete is legal sets out the rules.

Sort the AdBlue problem on your Boxer

Send us the registration, the message on the dash and the countdown mileage if there is one, and we'll come out to the van. For other Peugeot models, see our Peugeot AdBlue page, and businesses running several vans can open a trade account.
