Renault Master AdBlue problems and delete
An AdBlue warning on a Master can lead to a countdown, and when that runs out the van won't restart. We come to the van, read what's wrong and, if you choose, delete the AdBlue system for £330 + VAT.
AdBlue warning signs on a Master
A big van like the Master is usually earning money every day, so it's worth acting on any of these early.
- The AdBlue warning light on, with or without a message
- A no-restart countdown in miles on the display
- "Anti-pollution" fault messages, which Renault, Peugeot and Citroen often use in place of an AdBlue light
- Less pull than usual once a warning has appeared
What causes AdBlue faults on a Master
The parts that let go on a Master are the same ones that fail on most diesels with AdBlue. That means the pump, the heated tank, the NOx sensors and the dosing injector, which can block with crystals.
Contaminated or very old AdBlue can also cause trouble, so fill from a sealed container. Our AdBlue pump failure guide covers the most expensive of those faults.
What we do about it
Diagnostics come first, at £100 + VAT, done at your depot, yard or home. We don't repair AdBlue systems, so a repair means the failed part being replaced by a Renault dealer or SCR specialist.
The £330 + VAT AdBlue delete switches the system off in the ECU and stops the countdown.
What does the AdBlue warning mean on a Master?
The tank may be low, the fluid may be poor, or a part may have failed. If a top-up doesn't clear it, the Master has a fault that needs reading before the countdown starts.
What happens when the Master countdown reaches zero?
Once you switch off, the engine won't start again. Use the last few miles to get the van somewhere safe and accessible.
Why is the Master's AdBlue light still on after filling?
The light only clears with fresh fluid when the level was the cause. If it's still on, a sensor, the pump or the heater has logged a fault.
Is it the pump, the heater or a sensor on the Master?
The dash won't say. We read the codes and live values on site so you know before paying for parts.
Who can have the AdBlue delete on a Master?
Only vans used off-road or going for export, not ones working on UK roads. Our guide to whether an AdBlue delete is legal sets out who can use it.
Sort the AdBlue problem on your Master
Send the registration, the warning and any countdown mileage, and we'll arrange a visit to the van. The Renault AdBlue page covers the Trafic and other models, and you can set up a trade account for a fleet.
