VW Transporter AdBlue problems and delete

An AdBlue warning on a T6 or other Transporter is the van telling you the SCR system has a fault, and ignoring it can end with a van that won't restart. We read the fault where the Transporter is parked, and the AdBlue system can be deleted for £330 + VAT.

AdBlue warning signs on a Transporter

Look out for any of these on the cluster, whether your van is a T6 or another version with AdBlue.

  • An AdBlue warning lamp that won't clear
  • A message saying the engine won't start after a set distance
  • An AdBlue refill warning that comes back soon after filling
  • The engine management light joining the AdBlue warning

What causes AdBlue faults on a Transporter

On a Transporter with AdBlue, the usual failures are the pump losing pressure, a heater or tank fault, a NOx sensor giving bad readings, or crystals building up around the dosing injector.

If you're searching for a T5 AdBlue delete, send us the registration first, as we'll need to confirm whether your van has an AdBlue system at all. Our NOx sensor guide explains how a failing sensor can bring the warning on by itself.

Fault codes you might see on a Transporter

CodeWhat it points to
P20E8Not enough AdBlue pressure reaching the injector
P20EEThe SCR catalyst is underperforming on NOx
P203FAdBlue reading as low in the tank

We check the codes against live data so the right part is blamed.

What we do about it

We start with a £100 + VAT diagnostic check at your yard, a job or your home, which shows exactly what's failed on the Transporter. We don't repair AdBlue systems, so if you want the part replaced, that's a job for a VW dealer or SCR specialist.

The £330 + VAT delete switches AdBlue off in the ECU and clears the countdown.

What does the AdBlue warning mean on a Transporter?

It can be a low tank, poor fluid or a failed part. If the warning is still there after a top-up, the Transporter needs its codes read.

What happens when the Transporter countdown reaches zero?

The van runs until you switch it off, then won't restart. Make sure you stop somewhere it can stay and be worked on.

Why is the Transporter's AdBlue light still on after filling?

Fresh AdBlue only cures a low tank. When the light stays on, there's a stored fault in the pump, heater, sensors or injector.

Is it the pump, the heater or a sensor on a Transporter?

Only the codes and live readings can tell you. We take both on site, so you know what's failed before buying anything.

Can a Transporter with AdBlue deleted be used on UK roads?

No. The delete is only for Transporters used off-road or heading for export, and our guide to whether an AdBlue delete is legal explains why it isn't for road use.

Sort the AdBlue problem on your Transporter

Send the registration, the warning and any countdown mileage, and we'll arrange a time. Other VW vans, including the Caddy and Crafter, are on the VW AdBlue page, and fleets can open a trade account.
