Dyno remap or mobile remap: which do you need?
SGR Automotive are a fully mobile remapping business, so we don't run a dyno. If you want a dyno remap with a power graph to prove it, our sister business 117Speed can help, and for most standard cars a mobile remap at home does the job without the trip.
What a dyno does
A dyno, or rolling road, holds the car still whilst the wheels spin a set of heavy rollers. Sensors measure the force at the wheels, and software turns that into power and torque figures for the engine.
For a tuner, the dyno is a controlled place to load the engine and log what it's doing. For the owner, it gives a before-and-after graph showing what the remap changed.

When a rolling road is worth the trip
A dyno earns its place in some situations more than others.
- Your car has a long list of modifications and you want every change measured
- You'd like printed figures to show insurers, buyers or friends
- A power problem only shows up under full load and needs logging on the rollers
- You're building a car for track days or competition
Why most remaps don't need a dyno
A remap for a standard or lightly modified engine is written to suit that engine's hardware. The dyno mainly adds a graph to show for it, rather than changing how the map is made.
That's why a mobile remap is the practical choice for most diesel cars, family hatchbacks and work vans. You save the journey, the waiting room and half a day off work.
Mobile remaps we carry out
Stage 1 remap
More power and torque from a standard engine, mapped where it's parked. £275 + VAT.
Stage 2 remap
A map written around your upgraded intercooler, intake or exhaust. £275 + VAT.
Van remap
Stronger pulling for loaded vans and towing. £275 + VAT, or £1,200 + VAT for Ford SID212 vans, which are unlocked off site.
Do you have a dyno?
No. SGR are fully mobile and every job is done at the customer's home or workplace. Rolling road work goes to our sister business, 117Speed.
Can I have my car tested on a dyno after a mobile remap?
Yes. You can take the car to 117Speed or any rolling road afterwards for a power run. Book a run before the remap too if you want a true before-and-after comparison.
Are dyno figures exact?
Treat them as a guide. Readings vary between different dynos and with air temperature, tyre pressures and how the car is strapped down, so the same car can show different figures on different days.
Is a diesel remap and dyno session worth it on a standard car?
For most standard diesels, the graph is nice to have rather than needed. The remap itself works the same, so a mobile diesel remap at £275 + VAT is usually the better value.
Does it matter to my insurer where the remap is done?
No. A remap needs declaring either way, and where the map is written makes no difference to the insurer. See our insurance and warranty guide and is remapping worth it? for more.
Skip the trip and remap at home
If you'd rather not spend half a day at a rolling road, book a mobile remap and we'll come to you. If the dyno graph matters most, 117Speed are the team to call.
