Mini Cooper S / JCW remapping

If you want your Cooper S or JCW to feel livelier from low revs, or to crackle on the overrun, a remap is the way to do it. We remap R53, R56 and F56 cars at home or work for £275 + VAT, with a fault code check before anything changes.

Reasons to remap a Cooper S or JCW

  • The car feels quick but flat when you want to overtake on a B road
  • You'd like sharper throttle response for twisty roads and track days
  • A JCW already has an intake or exhaust upgrade and needs a Stage 2 map to suit
  • You want pops and bangs on the overrun
  • The Mini is a daily car and you want it to feel more eager around town

How a remap changes the Mini

The factory software in a Cooper S or John Cooper Works is a compromise built to suit every market. Remapping revises the boost, fuel and timing settings within safe limits, so the engine gives more in the rev range you use most.

On these small, light cars the change is easy to feel, with quicker pick-up out of bends and fewer gear changes on hills.

Pops and bangs

Overrun crackle can be added to the Cooper S or JCW map. See our pops and bangs page, priced per car.

Gearbox map

If your Mini has an automatic gearbox, a £195 + VAT gearbox map sets the shifts to suit the new engine map, or it's £440 + VAT as a package.

Diagnostics before mapping

If the engine light is on, a diagnostics visit at £100 + VAT finds the fault first.

What we do about it

We start by reading the codes on your Mini's ECU and saving the original software. A Stage 1 or Stage 2 map is then written for £275 + VAT, through the diagnostic port, with the car parked outside your home or work.

Once the map is loaded, the codes are read again and we talk you through the change. Our Stage 1 remap page explains what's involved.

Will a remapped Mini feel different on everyday roads?

Yes, usually from the first few miles. Most of the change is felt in the middle of the rev range, where the Mini spends most of its time.

Can a remap improve my Cooper S's mpg?

It can help on a gentle commute, as the extra torque means less work for the engine. A performance map is aimed at response, though, so mpg gains aren't the main reason to book on a Cooper S.

Should faults be fixed before the Mini is remapped?

Yes. If there's a stored fault, we'll show it to you and recommend getting it repaired before we write a new map.

Can a remap cause problems on a Cooper S or JCW?

A correctly written map on a healthy Mini shouldn't. Mapping a car with an existing fault or worn parts is where trouble starts, so we check first.
