Renault Trafic AdBlue problems and delete

An AdBlue light on a Trafic usually comes before a countdown, and once that reaches zero the van won't start again after you switch it off. We read the fault at your yard or on site, and can delete the AdBlue system for £330 + VAT.

AdBlue warning signs on a Trafic

Renault doesn't always use the word AdBlue on the dash, so it pays to know the other messages that point the same way.

  • An AdBlue symbol that stays lit after a fresh top-up
  • A mileage countdown to a no-start, or a warning that the engine won't restart
  • "Anti-pollution system" fault messages, which Renault and several other makes show in place of an AdBlue light
  • Reduced power or the engine management light alongside any of the above

What sits behind a Trafic AdBlue fault

The SCR system has a handful of parts that wear out or fail. The pump can stop building pressure, the tank heater can fail in cold weather, a NOx sensor can send readings the ECU rejects, and AdBlue can dry into crystals that block the dosing injector.

Low-grade or contaminated fluid can set warnings too, which is why a fresh fill from a sealed container is worth trying first. Our NOx sensor guide and AdBlue pump failure guide cover the two most common culprits.

Fault codes you might see on a Trafic

CodeWhat it points to
P20EEThe SCR catalyst isn't cutting NOx as much as the ECU expects
P2BADNOx levels are too high and the ECU can't tell why
P20E8Pressure in the AdBlue supply is too low

Two vans can show the same code for different reasons, so we back each one up with live readings.

What we do about it

Our diagnostic check costs £100 + VAT and takes place wherever the Trafic is parked, so you know exactly which part has failed. We don't repair AdBlue systems, so if you want the part replaced, a Renault dealer or SCR specialist can do it.

Our AdBlue delete is £330 + VAT. It takes the system out of the ECU's control and removes the countdown.

Frequently asked questions

What does the AdBlue warning mean on a Trafic?

It can be as minor as a low tank or as serious as a failed pump or sensor. Fill up with fresh AdBlue, and if the warning returns or a countdown starts, the Trafic needs its codes read.

What happens when the Trafic's countdown reaches zero?

The engine carries on running, but once you turn it off it won't fire up again. Park somewhere the van can safely stay and let us know where it is when you book.

Why is the Trafic's AdBlue light still on after filling?

A top-up only clears the light when the level was the only problem. If it stays on, the ECU has stored a fault elsewhere in the system, and our AdBlue warning light guide explains what to check.

Is it the pump, the heater or a sensor on my Trafic?

There's no way to tell from the dash alone, as one warning covers them all. Reading the stored codes and live data on site separates them before you spend money on parts.

Can my Trafic stay on the road after an AdBlue delete?

No. We only delete the AdBlue system on Trafics used off-road or going for export, and our guide to whether an AdBlue delete is legal explains the limits.

Let us have the registration, the wording on the dash and any countdown mileage, and we'll arrange a visit to the van. The Renault AdBlue page covers the Master and other models, and fleets can set up a trade account.
