How to fix a P2047 fault code

P2047 can be a broken wire, a corroded plug or an AdBlue injector that has failed, and the bill is very different for each. A £100 + VAT diagnostic where the vehicle is parked shows which one you're facing.

What P2047 means

The official wording is Reductant injector circuit/open (bank 1, unit 1). The AdBlue injector sprays fluid into the exhaust ahead of the SCR catalyst, and the ECU has found a break in its electrical circuit, so it can't dose.

What causes P2047

  • A wire broken by heat or chafing near the exhaust
  • Corrosion in the injector's connector
  • An injector with an internal open circuit
  • A supply fuse or relay fault

Symptoms you may notice

The AdBlue and engine lights come on, and a countdown to no-restart often follows on Euro 6 vehicles. The vehicle usually feels exactly the same to use, so the countdown is what prompts most owners to act.

You can usually carry on for now, but with no AdBlue being dosed, the countdown keeps falling. Book a check while there's still plenty left on the counter.

Price first

Circuit test

We check the injector's resistance, the wiring back to the ECU and the supply.

Your answer

You'll know whether it's wiring or the injector. We don't repair AdBlue systems, so repairs go to a dealer or SCR specialist with our findings.

The delete option

The £330 + VAT AdBlue delete can be carried out on site.

Frequently asked questions

How much does it cost to fix P2047?

A wiring repair is normally less than a new injector. The dealer or specialist quotes once our diagnostic has shown which you need.

Is it worth fixing P2047 on an older or high-mileage vehicle?

On a vehicle that stays on the road, yes, because the countdown will eventually stop it restarting.

Will replacing the AdBlue injector always clear P2047?

No. If the wire to it is broken, a new injector sits on the same open circuit and the code stays.

Can you sort P2047 at my home or workplace?

We diagnose it there, and can carry out the AdBlue delete on site. Injector and wiring repairs are dealer or specialist work. A dosing pressure code such as P20E8 may show up alongside.

Do I need a diagnostic before you can quote for P2047?

Yes. The quote depends on whether the injector or the wiring has failed, and only testing tells you.

Can a vehicle with P2047 have the AdBlue delete and stay on the road?

No. The delete is for off-road and export use only, and our guide on whether an AdBlue delete is legal explains the reasons.
