Mazda 6 DPF problems and cleaning

A DPF clean on a Mazda 6 costs £275 + VAT, done with the filter still fitted at your home or workplace. Expect over £1,000 for a new filter fitted, compared with £220 + VAT for a delete. We'll confirm the price from your registration.

What DPF cleaning changes on the Mazda 6

A clogged filter restricts the exhaust, so the car loses power and the ECU keeps trying to regenerate. We soften the soot with a cleaning solution and then run a forced regeneration to burn it out.

Afterwards, the back pressure drops, the light should go out and the car can handle its own regenerations again with regular longer runs.

Is it worth it on a Mazda 6?

For a diesel Mazda 6, cleaning makes sense before anything else, because it fixes most soot blockages for a fraction of the cost of a new filter. We read the soot and pressure figures before starting, so you'll know if it can be saved.

A filter that's full of ash or cracked is past cleaning. In that case, a replacement from a garage is the right fix.

Frequently asked questions

Is cleaning cheaper than a new DPF on a Mazda 6?

Yes, by several hundred pounds at least. The clean is £275 + VAT at your home or work, and a new filter is often over £1,000 once fitting is included.

What if the Mazda 6's DPF is full of ash?

Cleaning only removes soot, so an ash-filled filter won't recover. We'll spot it in the readings and point you towards a replacement before charging for anything.

Is a Mazda 6 DPF delete legal?

Not on a road car, where it's also an MOT failure. The £220 + VAT delete is only for a Mazda 6 that's kept off-road or heading abroad for export, and our DPF removal guide explains the law in full.

Can a fuel additive fix my Mazda 6's DPF?

Additives may help a filter that's lightly loaded, but they won't clear one that's blocked enough to flash a warning. At that stage, a clean with a forced regeneration is the reliable route.
