Toyota Hilux remapping
A Hilux that runs out of puff with a trailer hitched up, or one that guzzles diesel on long site runs, is a good candidate for a remap. We map the 2.4, 2.8 and 3.0 D-4D at your yard, site or home for £275 + VAT, with a fault check before anything changes.
Reasons to remap a Hilux
- Towing a horsebox, plant trailer or caravan feels like hard work on hills
- The pickup needs a lot of revs to move off with the load bed full
- Long motorway runs between jobs are using too much fuel
- An ex-fleet Hilux has a speed limiter fitted
- You want the truck to feel less sluggish on everyday roads
What a remap changes on a Hilux
The Hilux's diesel engine leaves the factory with a cautious map so it can cope with any climate and fuel. A remap adjusts boost and fuelling to give more torque low in the rev range, so a 2.4 or 2.8 pulls more willingly when it's loaded or towing.
On a 3.0 D-4D, the difference is most noticeable when pulling away and climbing.
Work worth pairing with a Hilux remap
Gearbox map
If your Hilux has an automatic gearbox, a £195 + VAT gearbox map keeps the shifts in line with the stronger engine, or £440 + VAT for both.
Speed limiter removal
Limiters on ex-fleet pickups can be raised or removed during the same visit. See speed limiter removal, priced per vehicle.
A diagnostic check
If there's a warning on the dash, book diagnostics at £100 + VAT first so the fault is fixed before mapping.
What we do about it
The first step is a full code read on the Hilux and a backup of its factory software. We then write the new pickup map for £275 + VAT, or an economy map for the same price, with the truck parked where it works.
Codes are checked again at the end and we explain the change before you head off. See our van remapping page for more on commercial vehicles.
Will a remap help my Hilux with a full load or towing?
Yes. The extra low-down torque is felt most when the Hilux is working hard, so it moves off and climbs with less effort.
Can a remap improve my Hilux's mpg?
It can, especially with an economy map. A pickup that isn't straining under load tends to use less fuel, though the saving depends on how it's used.
Should faults be fixed before the Hilux is remapped?
Yes. We read the codes before anything else, and any fault we find should be repaired before the Hilux is mapped.
Can a remap cause problems on a Hilux?
Not when the map is written properly for a sound truck. An existing fault or a worn clutch is the bigger risk, so we look for those first.
