VW Caddy remapping
A Caddy that feels breathless with tools and stock in the back, or one that's costing more in diesel than it should, can benefit from a van remap. We map 1.6 and 2.0 TDI Caddys at your yard or home for £275 + VAT, after checking for faults.
Reasons to remap a Caddy
- Pulling away on a hill with a full load takes too many revs
- The van drops to a lower gear at the first sign of a motorway incline
- You cover high mileage and an economy map could lower the fuel bill
- A Caddy Maxi carries longer loads and feels it on steep roads
- An ex-fleet van has a speed limiter you want changed
What a remap does to a Caddy
The software in a Caddy's ECU controls how much boost and fuel the engine gets. A van remap increases them within safe limits, so a 1.6 TDI or 2.0 TDI pulls more strongly at low revs, where a loaded van needs it most.
Afterwards the van tends to hold higher gears for longer, which makes motorway work less of a slog.
Work worth pairing with a Caddy remap
| Extra | When it makes sense | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Speed limiter removal | A fleet or ex-fleet Caddy with a limiter fitted | Priced per van |
| Gearbox map | If your Caddy has an automatic or DSG gearbox | £195 + VAT, or £440 + VAT with the engine map |
| Diagnostics | A warning light needs tracing before the remap | £100 + VAT |
What we do about it
First we read the codes on your Caddy and back up its software, so nothing is lost. Then the van map goes on for £275 + VAT, written through the diagnostic port while the Caddy stays parked at your yard, site or house.
We read the codes again at the end and tell you what's changed. More on commercial vehicles is on our van remapping page.
Will a remap help my Caddy with a full load or towing?
Yes, that's where the change is easiest to feel. The extra torque at low revs helps the Caddy move off and climb with weight on board.
Can a remap improve my Caddy's mpg?
It can. A van that isn't working at the top of its range tends to use less fuel, and an economy map is written with that in mind.
Should faults be fixed before the Caddy is remapped?
Yes. If our code read turns up a fault, it should be repaired first, as a remap won't fix it and may make it harder to find.
Can a remap cause problems on a Caddy?
A good map on a healthy van shouldn't cause any. Faults that were already there, or a clutch near the end of its life, are what we look for first.
