Vauxhall Insignia DPF problems and cleaning
If your Insignia's DPF light is on or the car keeps trying to regenerate, the filter is probably loading up with soot. We check it at your home or workplace and clean it there for £275 + VAT.
Signs of a blocked DPF on an Insignia
- The DPF warning light stays on after a long run
- Power drops away on hills or slip roads
- Limp mode, with the revs capped
- A high idle or the fan running after switch-off, signs of a regeneration in progress
- Worse fuel economy than usual
Why the Insignia's DPF blocks
The filter needs high exhaust temperatures to burn its soot off, and short local journeys don't provide them. When regenerations keep getting interrupted, the soot packs in until the car can't clear it alone.
Faults elsewhere add to it. A sticking EGR valve or a worn injector puts extra soot into the exhaust, and a faulty pressure sensor can stop regenerations starting at all.
Fault codes you might see on an Insignia
| Code | What it points to |
|---|---|
| P2463 | A soot build-up in the filter, which a clean usually fixes |
| P242F | A restriction from ash, which cleaning can't remove |
| P2002 | The filter trapping less soot than the ECU expects |
Our readings tell soot apart from ash, which decides whether a clean will work.
What we do about it
A diagnostic visit costs £100 + VAT and shows what's going on inside the filter. If it's soot, we clean the Insignia's DPF for £275 + VAT, with the filter left in place, using a cleaning solution and a forced regeneration.
Where the filter can't be saved, a DPF delete is £220 + VAT.
Why does my Insignia's DPF keep blocking?
Mostly because the car doesn't get enough steady running to finish its regenerations. If it blocks again soon after a clean, there's usually an underlying fault worth finding.
What does the DPF warning mean on an Insignia?
The ECU has measured more soot in the filter than it's happy with. A steady light is an early warning, while limp mode means the filter is well on its way to blocked.
Can I keep using my Insignia with the DPF light on?
A long, steady run can sometimes clear a lightly loaded filter, but more short trips will make it worse. If the light stays on, book a check before it ends up in limp mode.
Will a forced regeneration clear it?
Not always. Hard-packed soot can stop a regeneration finishing, so we add a cleaning solution first. You can read more in our DPF regeneration guide.
Can my Insignia go back on the road after a DPF delete?
No. A DPF delete is only for Insignias kept off-road or going for export, and our DPF removal guide covers why.
Sort the DPF problem on your Insignia
Send the registration and the message on the dash, and we'll book a time at your home or work. More models are on our Vauxhall DPF page, and EGR faults on the same car are covered under Insignia EGR problems.
