What DPF cleaning changes on the X5
When the filter clogs, the X5 loses its usual pull and may show a particulate filter warning light. Our cleaning solution breaks down the packed soot, then a forced regeneration burns it out.
With the soot gone, the back pressure falls, the warning goes out and regenerations can run normally again.
Is it worth it on an X5?
On any X5, including E70 models, cleaning is the first thing to try because it costs a fraction of a new filter. We read the soot and pressure figures before starting, so we don't clean a filter that's beyond saving.
BMW's N47 diesel is a common EGR delete candidate and is used across many BMW and MINI models. Whatever the engine, if the EGR is feeding the DPF extra soot, sorting that stops the filter clogging again.
Is cleaning cheaper than a new DPF on an X5?
By a wide margin. A clean is £275 + VAT on your driveway, whereas a new filter often costs more than £1,000 once fitted.
What if the X5's DPF is full of ash?
Ash can't be cleaned out, so the filter would need replacing. We'll see that in the readings and tell you before any work.
Is an X5 DPF delete legal?
Not on a road vehicle, and it fails the MOT. We only delete DPFs on X5s that are off-road or going for export, at £220 + VAT, as our DPF removal guide explains.
Can a fuel additive fix my X5's DPF?
Not once the warning has come on. An additive can't clear soot that's packed into the filter, whereas a clean with a forced regeneration can.
