Ford SID212 EGR delete
EGR faults on a 2.0 EcoBlue Transit, Transit Custom or Ranger need the SID212 ECU unlocked before the valve can be switched off in software. We remove the ECU, our lab unlocks it and programmes the EGR delete, and we fit it back. Allow 7 days at the lab, and the price is £1,200 + VAT.
What the EGR valve does
Exhaust gas recirculation feeds a measured amount of exhaust back into the intake to lower combustion temperatures and cut NOx. The gas carries soot with it, and over time that soot mixes with oil vapour and coats the valve and inlet.
A coked-up valve sticks open or shut, and the ECU flags the wrong flow straight away. That's when the warning light appears and power can be cut back.
Common EGR symptoms on the 2.0 EcoBlue
Most of these show up gradually before the light comes on. Our guide to EGR valve problems and symptoms goes through each one.
Flat pulling power
The van feels sluggish under load and slow to pick up from low revs.
Insufficient flow codes
Faults such as P0401 appear when the valve can't deliver the flow the ECU expects.
Limp mode
The ECU cuts power to protect the engine until the fault is cleared.
Rough idle and smoke
A sticking valve can make the engine idle unevenly and puff black smoke when you pull away.
Why the SID212 needs a lab visit
Older Transits take an EGR delete through the diagnostic port where they're parked. The SID212 hides its software behind an encrypted bootloader, and no port-based tool can read or write it.
Unlocking the ECU at the lab is the only way into the EGR settings. Once that's done, the valve control and flow monitoring are switched off and the file goes back in.
The SID212 EGR delete process
Registration check
We confirm the van has a SID212 before booking.
ECU removal
Our technician removes the SID212 from the Transit, Custom or Ranger.
Tracked courier
The ECU goes insured to the lab we use with our sister business 117Speed.
Unlock and EGR delete
The bootloader is unlocked and the delete is written.
Refit
The ECU returns by tracked shipping and goes back in the van.
EGR pages for the Transit and Ranger
The Transit EGR delete and Ranger EGR delete pages cover EGR faults on those models, including the earlier versions we deal with on site. Transit Custom owners with a SID212 can book straight from this page.
For vans without a SID212, an EGR delete is done where the van is parked for £220 + VAT. Our main EGR delete page has the details.
What does the SID212 EGR delete cost?
It's £1,200 + VAT. That includes the unlock, programming the delete and tracked shipping out and back, with a 7-day turnaround once the lab has the ECU.
Is an EGR delete legal in the UK?
An EGR delete is for off-road and export use only. Our guide on whether an EGR delete is legal explains the MOT position.
Can you check the EGR is really the fault?
Yes. A diagnostics visit costs £100 + VAT and tells you whether the EGR, a sensor or something else is behind the warning.
Can I combine the EGR delete with other work?
Yes, while the ECU is unlocked we can add a SID212 remap, AdBlue delete or DPF delete. Mention it when you book so it's all done in one lab visit.
Where can I find out more about the SID212 ECU?
The SID212 tuning guide covers which vans have it and how the unlock works. For an ECU that has stopped working altogether, see ECU repair.
Sort the EGR fault on your 2.0 EcoBlue
Give us the registration and the fault code if you have one, and we'll confirm the ECU and agree a day to remove it.
