Vauxhall EGR problems and delete
Rough idling, flat spots and black smoke on a diesel Vauxhall often trace back to the EGR valve. We diagnose the problem at your home, yard or workplace, and carry out the EGR delete for £220 + VAT.
EGR delete for Vauxhall
The EGR feeds part of the exhaust back into the engine, and the soot in it mixes with oil vapour and hardens on the valve. Eventually the valve sticks, the engine runs poorly and the ECU logs a fault.
Vans that idle on site and stop and start all day are hard on EGR valves, which is worth knowing if you run a Vivaro or Combo. We don't clean EGR valves, so the alternative to a delete is a new valve from a garage.
Warnings and signs
- A lumpy idle or stalling
- Hesitation when you accelerate

Reviews
What are the signs of a failing EGR on a Vauxhall?
Poor idle, hesitation and smoke are the usual ones, often with a stored code such as P0401 or P0403. Our EGR valve symptoms guide covers them in more depth.
Is an EGR delete legal on a Vauxhall on the road?
No. Turning off the EGR on a road vehicle breaks the emissions rules and can fail the MOT, so we only do it for off-road and export use. Our EGR delete legal guide explains.
Can the DPF and EGR on a Vauxhall be done together?
Yes. Both deletes can be done on one visit, and each costs £220 + VAT.
