What DPF cleaning changes on the Golf
A diesel Golf with a blocked filter loses power and may keep trying to regenerate without success. The clean breaks the hard soot down with a solution, then a forced regeneration burns it away.
Once that's done, exhaust flow returns to normal, the diesel particulate filter warning light goes out and the car can look after its own regenerations again.
Is it worth it on a Golf?
For most Golfs, cleaning is the obvious first step because it sorts most soot blockages for £275 + VAT. Our soot and pressure readings are taken before the clean, so you won't be charged for one that can't work.
A filter that has filled with ash or cracked internally needs replacing. We'll say so plainly and point you to a garage.

A clean won't recover it, because ash is what's left after soot burns and it can't be burnt again. We'll pick that up from the readings and tell you before starting.

No, not for a car on UK roads. The £220 + VAT delete is for Golfs that are kept off-road or being exported, and our DPF removal guide has the details.
Can a fuel additive fix my Golf's DPF?
Once the warning light is on, an additive is unlikely to clear it. A clean with a forced regeneration removes the soot properly, and you'll see the readings drop before we leave.
