Kia Sportage DPF problems and cleaning
A DPF warning light on a diesel Sportage means the filter is holding more soot than it can burn off. We read the codes where the car is parked and, if it's soot, clean the filter there for £275 + VAT.

What blocks a Sportage DPF
The filter clears itself during regenerations, which need a decent spell of steady running. A Sportage used for school runs and local trips seldom gets that, so the soot gradually builds.
A faulty pressure sensor, a sticking EGR valve or an injector problem can also fill the filter or stop it regenerating.
What we do about it
A diagnostic check for £100 + VAT shows what's behind the warning. If the filter is full of soot, we clean it in place for £275 + VAT with a cleaning solution and a forced regeneration.
If cleaning won't shift the problem, the DPF delete is £220 + VAT.
Why does my Sportage's DPF keep blocking?
Short trips that don't let regenerations finish are the most likely reason. If it blocks soon after a clean, we'd check the EGR valve and sensors.
What does the DPF warning mean on a Sportage?
It means the ECU has measured more soot than it wants in the filter. Getting it seen while the light is steady usually keeps it to a clean.
Can I keep using my Sportage with the DPF light on?
Briefly, but avoid more short trips. If power drops or limp mode kicks in, keep journeys to a minimum until it's checked.
Will a forced regeneration clear the Sportage filter?
It may on a lightly loaded filter. Packed soot often stops a regeneration completing, which is why we use a cleaning solution first.
