Range Rover Evoque DPF problems and cleaning
A DPF light or a DPF full warning on an Evoque means the filter is holding more soot than it can burn off by itself. We read the codes on your driveway or at work, then clean the filter in place for £275 + VAT.
DPF warning signs on an Evoque
- A DPF warning light, or a message saying the filter is full
- The car feeling sluggish when you pull out or overtake
- Limp mode, sometimes alongside the engine management light
- Regenerations that seem to run constantly, with a raised idle or the fan staying on
- More frequent trips to the pump for the same mileage
Why the Evoque's filter clogs
A diesel Evoque used mainly for school runs and town trips seldom runs hot enough for long enough to complete a regeneration. Each unfinished attempt leaves more soot behind until the warning appears.
Other faults can add to the problem. A sticking EGR valve, a worn injector, a misreading pressure sensor or oil that isn't the low-ash grade the engine needs will all fill the filter faster.
Fault codes you might see on an Evoque
| Code | What it points to |
|---|---|
| P2002 | The filter isn't working as well as the ECU expects |
| P246C | Restriction bad enough for the ECU to cut power |
| P242F | Ash build-up, which a clean can't burn away |
We check the readings behind each code, since a faulty sensor can look like a full filter.
What we do about it
We start with a diagnostic check for £100 + VAT at your home or workplace. When soot is the problem, we clean the filter with it still fitted for £275 + VAT, using a cleaning solution and a forced regeneration.
If the filter is past saving, a DPF delete costs £220 + VAT.
Why does my Evoque's DPF keep blocking?
Short journeys are the usual reason, because the car rarely finishes a regeneration. If it blocks again soon after a clean, we'd look for a fault upstream, such as the EGR valve.
What does the DPF warning mean on an Evoque?
The ECU has calculated that the filter is too full of soot. If the message says the filter is full, book a check promptly rather than waiting for limp mode.
Can I keep using my Evoque with the DPF light on?
For a short while, but more short trips will push the soot level higher. If the car has gone into limp mode, use it as little as possible until the filter is checked.
Will a forced regeneration clear it?
It can if the filter is only partly loaded. When the soot has hardened, a regeneration on its own may not finish, so our clean uses a solution to soften it first.
Can I have the DPF deleted on an Evoque I use every day?
Not if it's used on UK roads. We only delete the DPF on Evoques kept off-road or prepared for export, as our guide to DPF removal explains.
Sort the DPF problem on your Evoque
Send the registration and the warning you're seeing, and we'll book a visit to your home or work. Other models are on our Land Rover DPF page, and Evoque remapping is available on the same car.
