VW EGR problems and delete
A VW TDI that hesitates, smokes or drops into limp mode with an EGR code stored has a valve that's struggling. We diagnose EGR faults on Volkswagen cars and vans where they're parked, and the EGR delete is £220 + VAT.
EGR delete for Volkswagen
Exhaust gas fed back through the EGR carries soot, and oil vapour from the breather turns it into a sticky coating on the valve and intake. Over time the valve stops moving freely, and the ECU flags a flow fault.
Vans that idle on site and stop and start all day are hard on EGR valves, which matters if you run a Caddy or Transporter. We don't clean EGR valves, so if you'd rather keep the EGR working, a garage can fit a new valve.

Reviews
What are the signs of a failing EGR on a VW?
Lumpy idling, flat spots and black smoke are the usual ones, along with an EGR code such as P0401. Coolant loss suggests the cooler instead, which our EGR cooler failure guide covers.
Is an EGR delete legal on a road car?
No. Disabling the EGR on a road vehicle breaks the emissions rules and can fail the MOT, so it's for off-road and export use only. Our EGR delete law guide has the detail.
Can a VW have its DPF and EGR deleted on the same visit?
Yes, both can be done in one visit. The EGR delete is £220 + VAT and the DPF delete is £220 + VAT.
