Not sure what's behind the warning? A diagnostic check is £100 + VAT and shows whether the filter, a sensor or another fault is to blame.

What DPF cleaning changes on the Transit Custom

When the filter is clogged, the Custom may show "exhaust filter overloaded", lose power or try to regenerate over and over. Our clean breaks down the compacted soot with a solution and then runs a controlled regeneration to burn it out.

With the filter clear, back pressure falls, the warning goes out and the van can manage its own regenerations again on a decent run.

Transit Customs with the SID212 ECU

Many 2018-on Transit Custom models use a locked Ford SID212 ECU. For a delete on those vans, we remove the ECU, have it unlocked off site and refit it within 7 days for £1,200 + VAT. Our SID212 DPF delete page explains the process. The wider SID212 unlocking and tuning guide covers what else is possible.

Is it worth it on a Transit Custom?

On a Custom that's still in daily work, a clean is nearly always worth trying before a new filter. We take soot and pressure readings first, so you'll know whether the filter can be saved before we charge for the clean.

A filter that has filled with ash over its life, or one that's cracked, is beyond cleaning and needs replacing at a garage.

Frequently asked questions

Is cleaning cheaper than a new DPF on a Transit Custom?

Yes. The clean is £275 + VAT on site, whereas a new filter often costs over £1,000 fitted, depending on the van and where it's done.

What if the Transit Custom's DPF is full of ash?

Ash doesn't burn, so a clean can't clear it. If our readings point to ash, we'll recommend a replacement filter from a garage instead of charging for a clean that won't last.

Is a Transit Custom DPF delete legal?

Not for a van on UK roads. We only carry out the £220 + VAT delete on Customs used off-road or going for export, and our guide to DPF removal and the law sets out the rules.

Can a fuel additive fix my Transit Custom's DPF?

Additives are more of a maintenance aid than a cure. When the filter is already blocked enough to trigger a warning, it needs cleaning and a forced regeneration to clear it properly.
