Ford Transit Custom remapping

A Transit Custom that struggles on hills with a full load, or one that burns through diesel on long runs, is a good reason to book a van remap. We map Customs at your yard, depot or home for £275 + VAT, starting with a fault check.

Reasons to remap a Transit Custom

  • The van slows right down on motorway inclines when it's loaded
  • You tow a trailer and want more pulling power at low revs
  • Fuel is a big cost for the business and an economy map could help
  • A fleet or ex-lease Custom has a speed limiter you'd like changed
  • The van needs too many gear changes in stop-start traffic

What a remap changes on a Transit Custom

A van remap rewrites how much boost and fuel the engine gets at each point in the rev range. On a 2.2 or 2.0 Custom, that means more torque low down, so the van pulls away more easily when it's loaded and holds a gear better on hills.

The same goes for the lower-powered versions, such as the Custom 130, which often feel the change most.

Customs with the SID212 ECU

Ford fitted a locked SID212 ECU to many recent Transit Customs. Those vans can't be mapped on site, so we take the ECU out, have it unlocked and mapped off site, and fit it back within 7 days for £1,200 + VAT. Our SID212 ECU remapping page explains the work, and the SID212 tuning guide goes into more depth.

Speed limiter removal

Fleet-set limiters can be raised or removed during the same visit. See speed limiter removal, priced per van.

Gearbox map

If your Custom has an automatic gearbox, it can be mapped for £195 + VAT to match the engine, or £440 + VAT together.

Diagnostics first

A van with a warning light gets a diagnostic check at £100 + VAT, so the fault is found before any mapping.

What we do about it

Every Custom remap starts with a full code read and a backup of the original software. The new van map is then written for £275 + VAT through the diagnostic port, with the van parked where it works.

We read the codes again at the end and explain what's changed to whoever has the keys. Our van remapping page has more on mapping commercial vehicles.

Frequently asked questions

Will a remap help my Transit Custom with a full load or towing?

That's where the change is clearest. The extra low-down torque means the Custom pulls away and climbs with less effort when it's carrying weight.

Can a remap improve my Transit Custom's mpg?

An economy map is written to reduce fuel use, and a van that isn't working as hard often uses less. The saving depends on loads, routes and mileage.

Should faults be fixed before the Custom is remapped?

Yes. We read the codes first, and if there's a fault such as a DPF or EGR problem, it should be sorted before the van is mapped.

Can a remap cause problems on a Transit Custom?

Not when it's mapped properly on a healthy van. Existing faults and worn clutches are the usual culprits, so we check the van over first.

Get more from your Transit Custom

Send us the registration, or a list for the fleet, and we'll confirm prices and a time. The Ford remapping page covers other Fords, including the Transit and Ranger.

If the Custom has emissions faults too, see Transit Custom DPF cleaning and delete and Transit Custom AdBlue problems.
