Ford SID212 DPF delete

A blocked particulate filter on a 2.0 EcoBlue Transit, Transit Custom or Ranger can't be deleted in software on site, because the SID212 ECU is locked. We remove the ECU and send it to our lab, where it's unlocked and the DPF delete is programmed. It costs £1,200 + VAT with a 7-day lab turnaround.

Why DPFs block on working vans

The diesel particulate filter traps soot from the exhaust and burns it off during a regeneration, which needs the exhaust to stay hot for a decent stretch. Vans on short, stop-start rounds rarely get there, so the soot keeps building.

When a regeneration fails or gets cut short, the ECU logs a soot loading fault and may drop the van into limp mode. A cleared filter can block again if the van's routine stays the same.

Signs of a DPF problem

  • The DPF warning light refuses to go out
  • Fault code P2463 for soot accumulation
  • Limp mode, with power cut until the fault is cleared
  • The cooling fan running on after you switch off, a sign of a regeneration in progress
  • Forced regenerations that no longer clear the warning

What the SID212 changes

On older Transits we can load a DPF delete through the diagnostic port where the van is parked. The SID212's encrypted bootloader blocks that route, so the DPF logic can't be touched until the ECU has been unlocked.

That's the reason for the lab trip. Once the ECU is open, the filter monitoring and regeneration settings are rewritten and the file goes back on before shipping.

Steps for a SID212 DPF delete

Send the registration

We check the van has a SID212 and confirm the price.

ECU out

Our technician removes the ECU from the Transit, Custom or Ranger.

Off to the lab

It goes by tracked, insured courier to the lab, where we work with our sister business 117Speed.

Unlocked and programmed

The lab opens the ECU and writes the DPF delete.

Refitted

The ECU comes back by tracked shipping and we put it back in the van.

SID212 DPF delete by model

The model pages cover DPF faults on each van, including earlier versions we can deal with on site.

Ford Transit

Transits on multi-drop and city work are the most likely to block. Transit DPF delete

Ford Transit Custom

Customs used for local trades jobs may rarely get a full regeneration. Transit Custom DPF delete

Ford Ranger

Rangers used on short farm or site runs can clog in the same way. Ranger DPF delete

Frequently asked questions

How much is a SID212 DPF delete?

£1,200 + VAT, covering the unlock, the programming and tracked shipping in both directions. The lab turns the ECU round in 7 days from receiving it.

Can the filter be cleaned instead?

Often, yes. A DPF clean costs £275 + VAT and doesn't involve the ECU at all, so it's worth asking about if the filter isn't damaged.

Is DPF removal legal?

A DPF delete is for off-road and export use only. Our guide on whether DPF removal is legal covers the MOT and road-use rules.

What does a DPF delete cost on an older Transit?

Vans without a SID212 are done on site for £220 + VAT. See the main DPF delete page for those.

Can other work go on while the ECU is at the lab?

Yes. A SID212 remap, AdBlue delete or EGR delete can all be programmed in the same visit to the lab. The SID212 tuning guide explains the full process.

I'm not sure the DPF is the problem. What should I do?

Book diagnostics for £100 + VAT so the fault is confirmed first. If the ECU itself has failed, our ECU repair page covers that.
