Is it worth it on a Ranger?
Turbo diesel engines respond best to a remap, so a diesel Ranger is a strong candidate. For a pickup that tows or works hard, the extra torque low down is what makes the difference.
A Ranger remap costs £275 + VAT, and you can choose a map set up for pulling power or for economy. Automatic pickups can have the gearbox mapped too, and we confirm the price from your registration before we come out.
| Map | Suits | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Pickup remap (Stage 1) | A standard Ranger that tows, carries loads or covers long distances | £275 + VAT |
| Economy remap | A Ranger doing high mileage where fuel cost matters most | £275 + VAT |
| Gearbox remap | If your Ranger has an automatic gearbox | £195 + VAT |
| Engine and gearbox package | Both maps written on the same visit | £440 + VAT |
| Speed limiter removal | Fleet or ex-fleet Rangers with a limiter set | Priced per vehicle |
Every Ranger gets a fault code read first, and the factory software is saved before the new map goes on.
A remap adjusts boost, fuelling and timing so the engine makes more of its torque low down. On a Ranger 3.2, 2.2 or 2.0 Bi-Turbo, that shows up as stronger pulling with a trailer on the back or a full load bed, and fewer changes down on hills.
Wildtrak and workhorse Rangers are mapped the same way. The aim is a pickup that does its job with less effort.
A locked Ford SID212 ECU is fitted to many recent Rangers. We remove it and send it off to be unlocked and mapped, then refit it within 7 days, for £1,200 + VAT all in. Our SID212 ECU remapping page covers those pickups, and the SID212 tuning guide explains the background.

Let your insurer know once the Ranger has been mapped, as it counts as a modification. Business policies and lease agreements may have their own rules, and a manufacturer warranty can be affected. Our guide to remaps, insurance and warranty covers what to check.
A Stage 2 map relies on upgraded parts being fitted first. If your Ranger has them, send the list and we'll tell you what's possible before booking.
On an automatic Ranger, usually yes. It's £440 + VAT against £470 + VAT separately, and the gearbox map stops the shifts fighting the new torque when towing.
Yes. A remap is a modification in the eyes of an insurer, whether the Ranger is on a private or a business policy.
It might. Ford can turn down engine or gearbox claims on a remapped pickup, so read the terms if yours is still within warranty.
Send the registration and tell us how the Ranger is used, and we'll come back with a fixed price and a slot. Our pricing page lists every service, and the Ford remapping page covers the rest of the range, including the Transit and Transit Custom.
